'ETHEREAL DESIDERIUM'

SEASONLESS COLLECTION 001 2020

a contemporary lens. The work of Francesca Woodman and David Ryan Lopez respectively, inspires a transition into movement, through volume and excessive cuts. The dramatic volumes of the Tailored Waterfall Dress Coat emulate a heightened sense of beauty, with exacerbated motion as the woman walks. Similarly with the velvet release jacket, the over-exaggerated volume that flows from the fitted waist at the reverse, opens out, elevating the silhouette as the woman moves. With volume being imperative to the design process, the lighter draped silk garments are cut in a similar manner, as the organic flow of fabric presents the most

the concept of ethereality as escapism from the realities of divorce. Separation is a soul splitting. Small navigates the idea of a woman running from a situation and her transference through change. With headstrong shoulders and strong tailoring echoing a successful past life, the collection is injected with drape and volume, emulating movement. Left with a feeling of otherness, his woman is changed. An ethereal being lost somewhere between what was and what is; an ethereal desiderium.

honest representation of Small’s idea of what ethereality should be. As the woman moves the fabric moves uninhibitedly, commanding attention through a more dramatic silhouette. This is then balanced out by the delicacy of the hand sewn pearls, which add to a heightened beauty, sewn upon exquisite Chantilly lace mirroring the intricacy of Michael Landy’s florals.
